Canvas is the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) that supports teaching and learning at Oxford. It is replacing WebLearn. Staff and students log in to Canvas with their SSO. It is available at: https://canvas.ox.ac.uk/. Canvas is being used by some of the world’s leading universities to deliver high quality, digital learning experiences. It is intuitive, easy to use, scalable and capable of growing with Oxford’s needs. It is compatible with some of the most commonly used applications at the University, including Turnitin, Cabinet and Office 365 and ORLO (Oxford Reading Lists Online). Information, FAQs and guides are available form the Centre for Teaching and Learning.
I’m trying to use the LTI Link, but no list appears
It’s likely either that you haven’t yet told the ORLO team your Canvas Course Code, or your Canvas Course code has changed – even a small change can break this link. Please email orlo@bodleian.ox.ac.uk including the full name of the list you want to link, your Canvas course code and/or your Canvas page URL.
My list appears, but will only allow me to select week-by-week, not the whole list:
This is a text-wrapping error. Use your mouse to grab the bottom left corner of the popup, and drag to enlarge until the linking box appears to the left of the Reading list name.
I’m using a static link, but it gives an error/asks for an unusual login
It’s likely you’ve used the URL copied from the Reading list’s URL bar, which does not pass visitors through SSO login. Delete the link, and replace with a URL copied from the Copy Shareable Link to List option.
For a fuller explanation of these errors, including screenshots, please see the updated Canvas guide
ORLO is a separate product from Canvas but ORLO reading lists can be embedded in a Canvas module. Canvas, like ORLO, has rollovers and so the latest version of an ORLO list may need to be relinked in Canvas after their rollover.
Canvas has a guide on how to add ORLO lists to Canvas here, and general information on ORLO here. However, detailed instructions are available on the pdfs below.
Please note that if you choose option one in the document (External URL linking), you will still need to fill in a course record request form if you are setting up an entirely new reading list. This is due to the requirement that the reading list also link to the Library Management System in order to work.
If you have a previous reading list link (i.e. to the Talis system), please do not attempt to edit or paste a new reading list link over the old one. In this case, you should delete the link and start afresh with either option on the documentation below.
