Oxford Reading Lists Online (ORLO): For Libraries

ORLO Documentation

ORLO Documentation for Libraries is available via the Staff Intranet.

A complete guide for Library staff regarding all aspects of creating, setting up, and editing a Reading list can be found in the Documentation sidebar on the Intranet page. A Reading List Reviews Manual will be uploaded in due course.

ORLO for Library Staff - Training Video

If you can't attend an ORLO Leganto training session in person, a video of the training session from April 30th is now available to view:

Leganto for Library Staff Video (SSO required)

Please note that because of developments in the new Leganto UI and feedback from the Bodleian Libraries' User Testing, some labels may have changed since this recording, and will continue to change over the next few months.

If you are unable to access the video via the link above, please email orlo@bodleian.ox.ac.uk to receive a direct link. The mailbox is monitored Mon-Fri 9am-5pm; requests received out of hours or over the weekend will be attended to on the next working day.

ORLO Reports (Analytics)

Some ORLO reports have been set up in Analytics by our OlisHelp colleages.
These can be accessed from Analytics -> Shared with me. Search for "Reading".
The reports set up are:

  • Reading List - ORLO All List (Corresponds with the Talis All Lists Report)
  • Reading List - ORLO All Citations (Corresponds with the Talis All Items Report)
  • Reading List - ORLO All Sections
  • Reading List - Leganto E&P report (Corresponds to the old electronic and print overlap report)
  • Reading List - ORLO List in last 30 days (Widget) - to allow Library Reps to spot new ORLO lists for their area.
  • Reading List - ORLO List without Course (Widget); a widget to identify lists which have been set up without a course record; of use to ORLO Library Reps and SuperUsers to prompt list owners to fill out the Course Record Request form.

Not all the Leganto reports are available to all permissions sets; if you are unable to see a report you need, please contact olishelp@bodleian.ox.ac.uk. LIkewise, if there is a field on a report that you feel would be useful to add, please contact olishelp@bodleian.ox.ac.uk

Documentation for use of these Analytics reports is in the process of being produced, and will be posted here when complete. Instructions on adding a Widget to Alma can be found in the PDF below.

Leganto Show and Tell sessions

The ORLO team demonstrated our new reading list system in both ‘List Owner’ and ‘Student’ views.
This event is intended for: Academics, Administrators and Library Staff who use ORLO to support their students and are interested in viewing the new Leganto interface. It is not intended for students who access lists, and it will not demonstrate library review processes, which will be covered in later training.

Library FAQs

  • I want to find out if a book I need to purchase is on any reading list - how do I do that?
The Alma search will show you if a book is on a reading list. Set the Alma persistent search bar to "Citations" and "Title" (or ISBN if you are looking for a specific edition). If a title is on a reading list, this is shown on the right hand side of each search result. See our guide on the Intranet for more details.
  • I want to see only the lists belonging to my library when I review
You can search the lists in Alma by prefix - set the persistent search bar to "Reading List," type in your prefix+underscore (e.g. HIST_) and the search will return everything for that prefix - it will though also include other reading lists containing that word/those letters.
The Facets bar on the left of the Alma screen will allow you to select only lists assigned to your library ("Processing Department" on Alma). Expand the Facets bar, and select your library from the Processing Department options:

Framework for engagement

If a department or college has contacted you about joining ORLO, please share the Framework for Engagement document with them (PDF provided below). The first  page of the document offers a summary of factors to consider before joining ORLO, with further details outlined throughout the rest of the document.
