This article explores the relationship between the work of Charles Darwin (1809–1882) and LGBTQ+ issues, including intersex people. "Charles Darwin’s published and unpublished writings contain a plethora of references to sex variations, including intersexualities (‘hermaphroditism’), transformations of sex and non-heteronormative sexual behaviours."

This article discusses the decriminalisation of Sodomy in the United States. Laws prohibiting sodomy existed in a number of states throughout history. This article looks at two challenges to these laws that ended up in the in Supreme Court.

"In the past forty years, gay and lesbian populations have established a visible presence in many cities, but recent gentrification has put pressure on LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered) neighborhoods. This article uses a case study of the Atlanta metropolitan area to examine the effects of resurgent gentrification on LGBT neighborhoods."

This study looks at the impact of the 'gay ban' on LGBTQ+ Armed Forces personnel in the UK. "Under this ban, LGBT+ service personnel had medals, awards, and commissions taken, pensions and gratuities disregarded or degraded and their association with the Armed Forces barred."

"This article contributes new insights to current debates about the construction and meaning of queer space by considering how city space is appropriated by an informal queer network in Ul’ianovsk. The group routinely occupied very public locations meeting and socialising on the street or in mainstream cafés in central Ul’ianovsk, although claims to these spaces as queer were mostly contingent, precarious or invisible to outsiders."

By looking at touchstones in Horace Walpole’s life, I look for a model of queer relationality that is centuries ahead of its time."

"In eighteenth-century Europe, medical writers rejected the existence of human hermaphrodites as contrary to reason. This paper examines the underlying logic of this “rationalization” through textual analysis of James Parsons’ 1741 'Mechanical and Critical Enquiry Into the Nature of Hermaphrodites'."

This article looks at gay relationships during China's cultural revolution. "Using oral history and archival cases collected by the author, this article complicates this narrative about the Cultural Revolution by documenting different experiences of sexual awakening, ingenuity, and resilience of those men as well as their fear, misfortune, and tribulations. Despite all the risks of being arrested, interrogated, and disciplined by the authorities, clandestine sex between men persisted in both private and public spaces throughout this tumultuous period."

This journal article looks at the history of workplace discrimination against lesbian, gay, and bisexual police officers in the UK. It draws on recent data to draw out changes in the treatment and prevalence of LGB police officers over time.
