NHS: DynaMedex

A guide to online resources for staff employed by Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Subjects: Medicine

Introduction

This page is intended for Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff using DynaMedex (DynaMed and Micromedex with Watson).

We have a separate guide for clinical med students and other members of the University of Oxford who want to use DynaMed.

Getting Started

Accessing DynaMedex is easy. Follow the steps below to get the most out of this resource. Use the tabs at the top of this section for more information. Get in touch if you have any questions.

STEP 1: Access the OUH version of DynaMedex on an OUH PC or via OpenAthens.

STEP 2: Click on the Create Account button to register for your free personal account.

STEP 3: Download the DynaMed mobile app for on-the-go (and offline) access.

 STEP 1

Access DynaMedex on an OUH PC or via OpenAthens

The first step is to access the OUH version of DynaMedex. There are two ways you can do this.

Option One: Via an OUH PC (works on any OUH PC, OUH VPN or authorised network)

  • Log in to an OUH PC and access the OUH version of DynaMedex via this link.
  • You will also find a link to the OUH version of DynaMedex in the OUH intranet Clinical Zone.
  • This will take you to the DynaMed homepage. If you see a box on the right of the DynaMedex page indicating that your access is courtesy of, 'OXFORD UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS TRUST', then you have successfully signed in to the OUH version of DynaMedex and can move on to STEP 2 (create a personal user account).

Pop up box, which includes the text 'Your access courtesy of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust'

  • If you do not, follow the instructions below for home/private network users.

Option Two: Via OpenAthens (works on home/private networks)

  • Go to the DynaMedex website and log in via the 'Sign In' button on the right of the page.
  • Click on the OpenAthens link at the bottom of the screen and log in with your OpenAthens credentials.
  • Proceed to STEP 2 for full functionality (create a personal user account).

STEP 2

Create your free personal user account.

A personal account is required to access the mobile app for on-the-go (and offline) access, anytime, anywhere. It is also needed to save searches and set up personalised alerts.

Account Setup

  • To create your account, log on to the OUH instance of DynaMedex (see STEP 1) and click the 'Create Account' button on the right hand side of the page.

'Create Account' button

  • Complete the online form
  • Return to dynamedex.com and sign in with your new credentials.
  • Use your new account to access DynaMedex from anywhere (from now on you can skip STEP 1 and just sign in from dynamedex.com with your personal account).

STEP 3

Download the mobile app

  • Download the mobile app for quick, on-the-go access.
  • The app is available on Google Play (Android) and the App Store (iOS)
