The original mission of the FBIS was to monitor, record, transcribe, and translate intercepted radio broadcasts from foreign governments, official news services, and clandestine broadcasts from occupied territories. FBIS Daily Reports, 1974–1996 constitutes a unique archive of transcripts of foreign broadcasts and news that provides insight into the second half of the 20th century; many of these materials are firsthand reports of events as they occurred.

FBIS Daily Reports, 1974–1996 consist of translated broadcasts, news agency transmissions, newspapers, periodicals, and government statements from nations around the globe. These media sources were monitored in their languages of origin, translated into English, and issued by an agency of the US government.

World Press Trends Database is a primary source of data on the newspaper industry worldwide. It includes data from more than 70 countries, accounting for more than 90 per cent of the global industry's value. The data is available as individual country reports, and aggregated to reveal trends on circulation and readership. Users can generate custom reports, which can be downloaded as Excel files.

This provides access to over 1 million newspaper articles, broadcast transcripts and datelines, from around the world and translated into English by the US Government. The service ceased in 2013.

Country risk ratings and forecasts. Data are available for more than 140 countries, going back to 1984 for most countries and including risk ratings and economic data from International Country Risk Guide, as well as forecasts, economic, political, geographic, and social data from Political Risk Services. CountryData is updated monthly and is the gateway to current and historical data from The PRS Group.

Vinyard Software's ITERATE database provides data on terrorists and events of terrorism around the world from 1968 to the present. Nearly all incidents are included in the COMMON files, which the FATE, HOSTAGE and SKYJACK files supplement. Lists of the variables included in all these files are provided in the ITERATE Codebook 2009.

Index to the Study of Religions is the online version of the Brill journal Science of Religion. However, it is a selective bibliography, rather than a straightforward index. The English language abstracts published in the Index to the Study of Religions are drawn from a wide range of journals in various languages and reflect an array of complementary disciplines. The main objective of the Index to the Study of Religions is to facilitate the work and international collaboration of scholars in the academic study of religions and related fields.

The WRD contains detailed statistics on religious affiliation for every country in the world, using census and survey data. It is the major

source for international religious demography, with current and historical data, as well as forecasts of future developments (1900-2050).
