Legislation of Scottish Parliament 1999 to date

Since May 1999, Scotland has had its own parliament (in Edinburgh). Elected members are referred to as MSP (Members of the Scottish Parliament)

The Scottish Parliament's legislative powers are limited by s.29 & schedules 4 & 5 of the Scotland Act 1998 (1998 c.46)

In addition to short title and year, Acts of the Scottish Parliament can be cited by  "[yyyy] asp [number]" (cf UK" [yyyy] c.[number]")

for example The Criminal Proceedings etc. (Reform) (Scotland) Act 2007 can be cited as 2007 asp 6

NOTE Under Sewel Convention & Sewel Motions,  the Scottish Parliament can request that Scotland be included in pieces of legislation going through the Westminster parliament. This is why, for example, part 3 of the Civil Partnership Act 2004 (2004 c.33) is initial legislative authority for the position in Scotland.
