Impact assessments

Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs)
should be carried out to assess the consequences of individual projects. Can be reactive.

Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEAs)
Ideally proactive, SEAs examine the consequences of proposed policies, projects etc to ensure that the environment (and sustainability) is not neglected in favour of economic or social benefits of the proposals.
