St Anne's College Library: Using the Library

Using the Library

Read about our study spaces, rules and etiquette for using the library, accessing WiFi and other IT services, and a guide to Accessibility in our libraries.

Library Rules

Only members and associates of St Anne’s College may use the Libraries.

Books may not be borrowed by or for people who are not members of the College.

Please don't write or highlight in Library books.

Any defacement, damage, or loss of a book while on loan is the responsibility of the person who borrowed it, and may lead to a charge for replacement.

Food & Drink

Bottled water and hot drinks in Keep Cups are allowed in the Library. Eating is only permitted in the Outreach Room and outside on the rooftop or sunken garden areas of the Tim Gardam Building.

Please be respectful of those working around you.

The library is a place for silent study. Conversations should be taken outside and mobile phones and devices should be switched to silent. You must leave the Library completely to make/take calls.

Group study is allowed in the group study rooms in the First Floor Reading Room of the Tim Gardam Building. These room are largely soundproof, though louder conversations can be heard, so please be considerate of those in the reading room.

The Outreach Room can also be used as an informal study space when not booked for events.

Keep the Library tidy by taking your books and items with you.

Desks in both libraries are cleared daily each morning to ensure that there are places for students to work and that books not in use can be collected and re-shelved. Unattended property will be removed to the Lost & Found areas behind the staff desk in the Tim Gardam Building and the assigned cubby hole by the stairs in Hartland House Library. You can store your issued books and other items in the other cubby holes. These may be cleared at the end of each Term.

Library PCs and WiFi

There are 10 PCs on the Ground Floor of the Tim Gardam Building and 2 PCs located in the Entrance area of Hartland House Library. To log on, use your Single Sign On (SSO) username e.g. sann1234 and password.

Eduroam and OWL WiFi networks can also be accessed throughout the Library. For instructions on how to set up a WiFi connection please see the University's WiFi guide.

Library PCs will automatically log out after 15 minutes of inactivity, so remember to save your work periodically. Also remember to log off once you have finished. If you don't other people could print on your account and you will be charged.

See our Printing, Photocopying, and Scanning Guide for more details.

Book a Group Study Room

If you want somewhere to work as a group you can book a group study room on the first floor of the Tim Gardam Building!

E-mail teaching.rooms@st-annes.ox.ac.uk to book a room 24 hours in advance (or on Friday for the following Monday) and you will receive an e-mail back to confirm your booking.
