The College library offers a range of services to help you including purchasing books for your courses, a Click & Collect service, providing scans, postal loans, and comb-binding for your thesis and other documents.
We accept suggestions of books (or DVDs) that support Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. The book doesn’t necessarily have to be on a reading list; it can be something you've read a good review of. We may accept suggestions of books of more popular nature e.g. good quality novels, poetry, prose, popular science, social sciences, history, or self-help books.
To suggest a title for purchase, please fill out the Book Suggestion Form, or send an email to Sally Speirs giving the details of the book, your course details, your tutor's name and the date by when you need the book.
Sally will send you a response to let you know what’s happening with your request. She aims to order books on the same day that the request is received. If you have any questions just send her an email.
You can use the Click & Collect service to request books ahead of time. Librarians will fetch books for you and leave them ready for you to issue.
(1) Sign in to SOLO with your Oxford Single Sign-On (e.g. sann1234)
(2) Find a book you want to read in St Anne’s College Library.
(3) Expand the record and click on the green ‘Request’ button.
Try to request one which says ‘Available’. If it has a due date you will need to wait for someone else to return it first.
(4) You will recieve an automated email when one of the librarians has fetched it. You can collect the book from a trolley in the foyer of the Tim Gardam Building.
Books requested via Click & Collect are not issued to you automatically. You will need to check them out at the self-issue machine.
St Anne’s College members may request a scan of an article, chapter or up to 10% (whichever is greater) of a book or journal held by the College library. If you're not sure which chapter you need, email the Library and ask us to send you a scan of the contents page.
To request a scan, please fill in the Scan Request and Copyright Declaration Form and library staff will scan it for you. You must enter your email and confirm that you have read and agree to the copyright declaration for the request to be fulfilled.
College members can also use machines to scan books, within copyright limits. Visit our Printing, Copying, and Scanning Guide for more details.
The Bodleian Libraries offer a “Scan & Deliver” service via SOLO. Utilising the Scan & Deliver button even when next to St Anne’s College Library, books will send a request directly to the relevant Bodleian Libraries team and be dealt with there.
We offer both comb binding and thermal binding for a variety of different sized documents. It costs £2.50 per copy charged to your battels. We ask that you arrange an appointment in advance either in person or by e-mailing us at library@st-annes.ox.ac.uk.
Please note this service is for College Members only.
If you have a residency waiver or can’t make it to Oxford at the moment, we may be able to post books to you.
Check to see if there is an e-book available on SOLO before making a postal loan request. If you are finding something difficult to read as an e-book, we might be able to post it you anyway.
Remember that we offer a scanning service if you only need to read one chapter.
If you need a book posted to you then:
Please limit your requests to 2-3 books at a time. We will not be able to post every book on a long reading list to you, so try to concentrate your requests on the most essential texts. If you are not sure which titles are the most essential to read, ask your tutor for advice. You can place as many requests as you like, but in order to avoid going to the Post Office, we will limit each parcel to 2-3 books so that it is within the weight limit which we can send from the Lodge.
We will not charge you postage for books sent to you but if we recall a book from you for another student we would ask you to pay for the postage and to return the book promptly.
