We are unable to run OxLibris library sessions during the 2020-21 school year because of restrictions to library capacity put in place as part of Covid-19 safety measures.   If you would like more information about the scheme please contact oxlibris@admin.ox.ac.uk.

What happens in an independent study session?

Bodleian Social Science Library buiilding entrance

Independent study sessions will be held in the Bodleian Social Science Library, one of the main libraries at the University of Oxford.  As well as having about 250,000 books available to browse on the library's shelves, participants can request resources in advance of the visit and use online resources.

When booking a place for an independent study session, you will be asked to provide a list of 10 books, articles or other resources that you would like to use during your session.  To find out what resources are available you can search our library catalogue.  You will also be able to access online resources during the session.

Once you have given us your list of books, we will try to source as many as possible from Oxford University's collections to have ready for your visit.

During the session you will be able to study your requested books, browse the library's shelves and access online resources.  Library staff will be on hand to help if you have any questions.  The sessions will last for 3 hours but you are welcome to leave earlier if you have finished your research.

How to book a session

Once you have chosen which independent study session you want to attend you will need to complete the booking form below (you can do this electronically) and email this to us at: oxlibris@admin.ox.ac.uk

Make sure that the completed form reaches us by 12pm of the Thursday one week before your session so that we have time to order your books for you.

You are allowed to request up to 10 books, articles or resources for your session. If you need help choosing books, please see the section on searching for Bodleian Social Science Library resources or contact us: oxlibris@admin.ox.ac.uk

You do not need to use this form to order online resources, as these will be available to you during the session.

During the session we will also ask you to complete and sign a Bodleian Libraries Admissions Form.

You are welcome to attend more than one session, but will need to send us a booking form for each one.

You, your parent or guardian and your schools can also ask any questions you have about the sessions by emailing oxlibris@admin.ox.ac.uk. Our postal address is:
