OxLibris: College resources

Information about the OxLibris scheme for local Oxfordshire state school sixth form pupils.

How to start searching

The Oxford Libraries Catalogues (SOLO) is available at: http://solo.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/primo-explore/search?vid=SOLO&lang=en_US&sortby=rank

If you know the details of the resource, such as a book, that you are looking for, then the easiest way to search SOLO is to enter key words from the resource's title and/or author names and click the magnifying-glass search symbol. You can also enter details such as editor, publisher or publication date if you know them.

If you do not have a specific resource but want to search generally then use keywords for the topic of your research e.g. animal testing ethics or witches England history.

Searching Tip: You can use the symbol * at the end of a word to find alternative word endings e.g.  child* finds child, children, childish, childishly etc.

How to Start Searching SOLO

Limiting search results to a particular college library

When you have entered your search terms into SOLO, click on the drop-down menu to the right of the search box and select the College Library that you are interested in, e.g. Hertford College.

If you are searching for a specific item, you may want to search all Oxford Libraries and narrow down your search results afterwards. If this is the case, you will want select ‘All Libraries/Collections’ from the drop-down menu and then use the search filter on the left to limit the results to specific libraries (see the section below).

How to sort and refine your results

On the left hand side of the screen you can use 'Sort by' to order your search returns to show the newest or oldest results first.

Use can the filters to narrow down your search. You can limit your results by: Library, Resource Type, Creator, Publication Date, Topic, Language or Collection.

Expand the list by clicking on the red arrows. Navigate up and down the filters by using the side bar to the right of the list.
