Economics: Data & Statistics

Statistical databases

Databases, collections storing structured and organised data, that can be searched, queried and accessed electronically, contain large amounts of data including (but not limited to) statistics, bibliographic information, images and abstracts.

Oxford subscribes to many databases that are available to Bodleian users. In addition we list here some databases relevant to study and research in Economics that are freely available to all.

The tabs at the top of this section take you to key Data & Statistics databases for Economics, and a link to a selection of browsable Economics databases.

You can also search for specific databases, both bibliographic and statistical via SOLO, but bear in mind that some key texts may be available via a database but not individually listed on SOLO.

Below are key databases applicable to those studying Economics at Oxford.

Access

Depending on the database provider, you may need to use your Oxford Single Sign On to access materials.

Here you find databases that provide national or cross-national data and statistics as well as some regional data.

Help with statistical databases

To see more sources, and find out about services for those who need to make secondary use of statistics and data, go to the Bodleian Data Service which provides a range of services for researchers and students at the University of Oxford who need to make secondary use of statistics and data with the initial focus on the social sciences -

  • supports researchers and students in finding, accessing and using social science statistics and data;
  • manages the access and curation of restricted and sensitive datasets which may not be networked including data supplied by Eurostat;
  • offers a new data brokering and clearing house service for the acquisition of datasets by research centres in the Social Sciences Division;
  • provides consultancy services and highlights training opportunities;
  • alerts researchers to new sources of data.

For data enquiries and help please contact John Southall (tel.: 01865 285936) at the Bodleian Social Science Library.

For those seeking advice on accessing databases we recommend the following guides:

Bibliographic databases

Bibliographic databases are a useful tool for finding scholarly literature in your subject area. This includes (but is not limited to) journal articles, conference proceedings and books. They are very useful to consult when carrying out your own research because:

  • they provide powerful search functionality
  • have citation tools
  • have thesauri
  • their content is selected by experts in your subject

Bibliographic databases are helpful when you want to start exploring beyond your reading list or are researching a new topic.

To see bibliographic databases go to Journals and Working papers page of this Guide.
