Christ Church's collections are enriched by the Orrery (Charles Boyle, Earl of 1676-1731) Bequest containing many (575) rare French items. Many early French books mainly but not exclusively theological in content were left to the college by William Wake (1657-1737). William Wake was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1716 until 1737. During 1718 he conducted negotiations with the Gallican Church in France to bring about a union between that Church and the Church of England.
