We have relaunched our 3D printing service.
Please note that our 3D printing service is only available to members of Oxford University. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to offer printing services to external organisations, businesses or private individuals.
The Radcliffe Science Library's 3D printer and scanners are available to University of Oxford students, faculty and staff to scan objects or print three-dimensional objects in plastic (PLA) under supervision and guidance from Library staff.
I. The Radcliffe Science Library's 3D printer and scanners may be used only for lawful purposes. No one will be permitted to use the Library’s 3D printer or scanners to create material that is:
a. Prohibited by UK law.
b. Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others. (Such use may violate the terms of use of the manufacturer.)
c. Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment.
d. In violation of another’s intellectual property rights. For example, the printer will not be used to reproduce material subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection.
II. All print submissions and scanner requests are subject to approval based on scheduling and availability. The Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print or scan requests for any reason.
III. Cost: 3D scanning is free. 3D printing at the Library costs £2 for the first hour, plus £1 for each additional hour it takes to print (rounded up). 3D printing costs must be paid in advance in cash at the Radcliffe Science Library enquiry desk.
IV. The Library cannot guarantee a print time, however staff may be able to provide an estimate based upon the print queue length.
V. Items printed from the Library 3D printer not picked up within 14 days after being printed become the property of the Library, at the Library's discretion. Items must be picked up by the individual who printed them, providing valid ID.
VI. Items printed on the Makerbot Replicator 2 may have small surface defects, such as bumps or holes. These routine defects will not be cause for refund or lack of payment for the object. Also note that while the Replicator is very accurate, we will not guarantee any precise tolerances on fitting of multi-part objects.
VII. Some objects (such as those with steep overhangs) require temporary support material to be printed. This material is easily removable; the user will be completely responsible for removing this material -- Library staff will not remove support material.
VIII. Only designated Library staff will have hands-on access to the 3D printer and scanners.
Usage of equipment and libraries, also falls under the following policies, which would apply for any 3D printing and/or scanning activities in the Radcliffe Science Library:
