Film Studies Classification Scheme

All films and books on film are fully searchable on the online library catalogue. The catalogue will tell you which libraries hold the particular items that you need and where you can find them on the shelves.

There is also further information about the film collections in the Film Studies guide.

Film Collections in Oxford

The two main film collections are housed in the English Faculty Library (Anglo-American film) and the Taylor Institution Library (European and World Cinema). Both collections are classified according to the Library of Congress classification scheme. There is also an open-shelf collection of film books in the Bodleian Lower Camera, also classified to Library of Congress. A broad outline of the scheme is included at the end of this leaflet, together with specific examples of shelfmarks for books and films.
