At the end of October 2023, the British Library was subject to a major cyber-attack, which disrupted access to electronic Legal Deposit (eLD) content. A large-scale exercise was subsequently undertaken to check the integrity of the vast core eLD dataset. This led to the development of a new secure interface for accessing eLD content collected prior to October 2023 (excluding the UK Web Archive, which remains unavailable).
The ELD SOLO Browser is an interim solution with reasonable functionality for searching, citation, and printing. Use this guide to make the most of navigating and using eLD content.

You can print out from both PDF and ePUB formats from the ELD Browser. Click on the print icon on the far right of the screen below the coloured banner. You will then print out in the normal way using your PCAS account. Standard PCAS charges apply.

How much am I allowed to print from electronic Legal Deposit material?
This copy is protected by the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988. You are legally responsible for any copies made. Under this legislation the following limits are applicable:
You must only make a single copy, and this should not be further copied.
The copy can only be used for research or private study (neither of which may be for a commercial purpose), or for criticism, review and news reporting and the source of all copies must be acknowledged.
You will not be able access the ELD SOLO Browser to view content remotely. You will be able to view eLD records in SOLO and use the Print and Deliver service for all eLD material. The Print and Deliver option on an eLD item will not appear until you are signed into SOLO. There is a flat rate charge of £2 for all eLD print & deliver requests

Scanning, downloading, emailing a digital copy is not permitted under the current legislation.
