The Scottish Crime and Justice Survey (SCJS) began formally in 1993 and asks people about their experiences and perceptions of crime in Scotland. It is an important resource for both the government and public of Scotland. The main aims of the SCJS include the provision of reliable statistics on people's experience of crime in Scotland, including services provided to victims of crime and collect information about people's experiences of, and attitudes on a range of crime and justice related issues
Scottish social attitudes survey

The Scottish Social Attitudes (SSA) survey was launched in 1999, following the advent of devolution. Its aims are to facilitate the study of public opinion and inform the development of public policy in Scotland. In this it has similar objectives to the British Social Attitudes (BSA) survey.

2000-

The main portal for crime and justice statistics is at the Scottish Government site. Within the Justice Analytical Services Division, statistical teams work within four policy-focused, multi-disciplinary analytical teams which include social researchers, economists and performance analysts. The teams provide statistical information and support relating to police and community safety, court affairs and offenders, prisons and matters relating to civil and international law.

The statistics are split into the following categories:
Crime and disorder and danger
Fire
Violent Crime
Policing
Drugs and alcohol
Civil Justice

Scottish Crime and Justice Survey : Scottish Government
The Scottish Crime and Justice Survey (SCJS) is a household survey of people's experiences and perceptions of crime
Results for 1993-2010/11
Fieldwork for the SCJS 2012/13 was completed in March 2013, results from which will be reported on from December 2013 onwards. The next sweep of fieldwork will take place for SCJS 2014/15 between April 2014 and March 2015.

An important role of the SCJS is to provide an alternative and complementary measure of crime to the police recorded crime statistics, which provide statistics on crimes and offences recorded and cleared up by the eight Scottish police forces.
