Bodleian Libraries of the University of Oxford

'Bodleian Libraries' is the Oxford University Library service which includes the various sites of the Bodleian Library together with other Research, Faculty and departmental libraries.

We very much hope that you will enjoy your time here. To support you in your studies you will have access to some of the finest libraries in the world. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of them.

Library Services

The following services are provided by the Bodleian Libraries:

  • Admission to all Bodleian Libraries
  • Lending service from the Rewley House Continuing Education Library, reference-only in all other libraries
  • Reference and enquiry services
  • Access to online catalogues, many electronic resources and other IT facilities using library PCs.
  • Access to Bodleian Libraries wi-fi in library reading rooms
  • Self-service printing, photocopying and scanning using the PCAS system

You can also make use of our web enquiry service Ask an Oxford Librarian: http://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/ask

The Central Bodleian Library

The Central Bodleian comprises the Old Bodleian, the Radcliffe Camera, the Gladstone Link and the Weston Library.

Due to the complex nature of the Bodleian Library we would suggest that you make your first port of call the Main Enquiry Desk in the Lower Reading Room (Old Bodleian Quadrangle), where knowledgeable and friendly staff will be able to guide you to the most appropriate collections and Reading Rooms for your research.  Subject librarians can be contacted for more subject-specific enquiries. In addition to this, you can refer to the online guide to the Central Bodleian at  https://libguides.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/bodleianlibraryguide

You can use the self-service photocopying PCAS system for post-1900 works in the Central Bodleian. For further details of this, and our staff-mediated service for older material see: http://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/bodley/using-this-library/copy/photocopying

Many books in the Central Bodleian are kept in the Closed Stack. You will need to request these to be sent to a reading room, which may take up to 24 hours. For more information about this, please see the Bodleian Library guide
