Introduction

The Bodleian Libraries host free workshops and classes to help you effectively search for and access scholarly materials. Topics include literature searching, keeping up to date with new research, reference management and measuring research impact.

On this page you will find details of centrally coordinated workshops that are part of the Bodleian iSkills programme and subject-specific workshops organised by your subject librarian.

Anthropology training

  • Introduction to Library Services for Anthropology 

For all new postgraduates. Friday week 0, 11am-12pm.  Manor Road Building.

 

  • Research skills for Anthropology

Whether exploring literature beyond your reading list, or focussing on a specific research question for your dissertation or thesis, this lecture will equip you with the skills to use Oxford’s online resources to their fullest potential.  We will cover actions you can take now to save you time when starting your research and enable you to easily keep up to date in your research area.

The session will cover:

  • Using reference managers
  • Exploring key online resources
  • Effective literature searching
  • Keeping up to date

PRS students: Wednesday, Week 4 as part of the 'Fieldwork Essentials' seminar series
MSc/MPhil students: Wednesday Week 5, 1.30pm-2.30pm Seminar Room 1, Manor Road Building

Migration Studies DPhil students: Thursday Week 5.

For help with how to use particular resources or on locating difficult to find material. Discuss your research topic and literature searching needs with your librarian to make the most of researching at Oxford.

One to one research consultations for Anthropology are available.  Booking is required via emailing the Subject Librarian, Helen Worrell.

 

Centrally coordinated training and resources

Bodleian iSkills is a centrally coordinated programme primarily aimed at University of Oxford students and staff and, for particular workshops, Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) staff. The programme covers literature searching, reference management, Open Access, Research Data Management and more. Look at the Bodleian iSkills webpage for a list of courses that are running, links to webinar recordings and video tutorials.

Use IT Services' Digital Skills Toolkit to self-assess and develop your digital skills. Additionally, you may like to attend teacher-led or self-led Digital Skills Training on topics such as spreadsheets, databases, statistical analysis and more.

You will find study skills resources compiled by Bodleian Libraries staff available on Oxford Reading List Online (ORLO). You will need your Oxford Single Sign On credentials to access the list.

The Oxford University Language Centre offers courses on English for Academic Studies for Oxford University staff and students who are non-native English speakers. Find out more on the Academic English website:

LearnHigher is a platform that provides free tips on academic writing, plagiarism, referencing and other aspects of university study such as group work and time management.
