Music Collections: Music Literature

A guide to the finding aids available for the music collections in the Bodleian Library.

Music literature

Printed books and periodicals on music will all be found in the online catalogue SOLO, as will e-books and e-journals. Please note that many records converted from the old Pre-1920 Catalogue were catalogued according to rather different rules from later material, having briefer entries, and lacking Library of Congress Subject Headings.

Music books on open shelves in the Weston Library have the shelfmark prefix 'MUS'. This should not be confused with the location code 'MUS', which represents the Music Faculty Library in St. Aldates. Unlike music scores, most books can be ordered from offsite storage to a number of different reading rooms through SOLO.

For more guidance on searching for music books, journals and dissertations, see the Music subject guide. For general help on using SOLO, click here.
