A/RES/55/25 at 4 (2001); 40 ILM 335 (2001) This Protocol supplements the Convention Against Transnational Crime. Its purpose is 1) to prevent and combat trafficking in persons, paying particular attention to women and children; 2) to protect and assist victims of trafficking, with full respect for their human rights; and 3) to promote cooperation among States in order to meet these objectives. The Protocol provides a definition of "trafficking in persons" and attempts to safeguard victims while punishing the offenders.
