Purpose of this guide

This guide is intended for students and researchers studying French at the University of Oxford, although students and researchers from any field may find it useful.

Use this guide to find out about current issues and back-archives of contemporary French and Francophone newspapers as well as back-archives of historical French and Francophone newspapers

Note that Oxford now has access to the current issue of Le monde and also the back-files of Le monde (1944-2000)

Some access to recent articles

It is possible to access the current issue of many contemporary French newspapers including Le Monde. However, it is not possible to gain the same free access to their archives which is offered by some British newspapers.

Courrier du Vietnam, Le
Full access to this newspaper - the only Vietnamese French newspaper. Online access goes back to January 2014
Croix, La
La Croix is a daily French general-interest Roman Catholic newspaper. Some articles behind a pay-wall, much still freely available
evene.fr
Not a newspaper but a website specialising in culture and affiliated to Le figaro. Much material now behind a pay-wall
Figaro, Le
Le Figaro is the oldest national daily in France and one of the three French newspapers of record. Most material now behind a pay-wall
Humanité, L'
L'Humanité is a French daily newspaper with links to the Communist party. Much material now behind a pay-wall
Libre Belgique, (La)
La Libre Belgique currently sold under the name La Libre, is a major daily newspaper in Belgium. Together with Le Soir, it is one of the country's major French language newspapers and is popular in Brussels and Wallonia
