DynaMedex

DynaMedex (DynaMed and Micromedex with Watson) (EBSCO and IBM) 

This guide is intended for Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff.

We have a separate guide for staff and students at the University of Oxford who want to use DynaMed

(OUH Resource of the Month: September 2022, June 2023)

Getting Started

STEP 1: Access DynaMedex through your institution (OUH).

STEP 2: Create your free personal user account for full functionality 

STEP 3: Download the mobile app for on-the-go access

Access DynaMedex through your institution (OUH)

 

Option One (works on any OUH PC, OUH VPN or authorised network)

  • Go to the OUH staff intranet homepage and click on the DynaMed icon in the clinical resources area on the right-hand side of the page. This will take you to the OUH instance of DynaMedex.
  • Click on the 'people' icon 'People' icon web button in the upper-right corner of the DynaMedex homepage. 
  • If you get a pop up box indicating that your access is courtesy of, 'OXFORD UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS TRUST', then you have been successful and can move on to STEP 2 (create a personal user account).

  • If you do not, follow the instructions below for home/private network users. 

Option Two: (works on home/private networks)

  • Go to the DynaMedex website, click on the people icon in the upper-right corner of the page and select Sign In.
  • Click on the OpenAthens link at the bottom of the page and log in with your OpenAthens credentials.  
  • Proceed to STEP 2 (create a personal user account).
  • Or simply use the Quick Search box below (OpenAthens account required).

Account Setup

  • To create your account, log on to the OUH instance of DynaMedex (see STEP 1) and click on the 'people' icon A screenshot of the People icon in the upper-right corner of the DynaMedex homepage.
  • Click the 'Create Account' button in the resulting dialogue box.

  • Complete the online form
  • Return to dynamedex.com and sign in with your new credentials. 
  • Use your new account to access DynaMedex from anywhere (from now on you can skip STEP 1 and just sign in from dynamedex.com).  

 

Personal Account Benefits

  • Use your personal user account to access DynaMedex on any device or network
  • Track your usage for CME and MOC credits 
  • 'Follow' topics by setting up personalised alerts.
  • Save searches.

 

Resetting Your Password

  • From the Sign In Screen, click 'Forgot password?'
  • Enter your email address and click 'Continue'. You will be prompted to check your email for a security code.
  • Enter the security code and set a new password.

Download the mobile app

 

  • Download the mobile app for quick, on-the-go access. 
  • The app is available on Google Play (Android) and the App Store (iOS) 
  • The app is compatible with any iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 10.0 or higher or any Android device running Android 5.0 or higher.  
  • Search for 'Dynamed and Micromedex' and download the app.

  • Open the app on your device, tap 'Sign in' and enter your personal user account credentials (see STEP 2 for this information)

  • Your personal account credentials will authenticate the mobile app for 3 months, after which you will be prompted to re-enter your account credentials
  • At this time, the mobile app can only be used while connected to the internet 

 

Mobile Browser

If you don’t want to download the app to your device, you can access DynaMedex on your mobile browser with your personal user account credentials. The mobile browser experience mimics the web version of DynaMedex.

Simply enter ‘dynamedex.com’ in your mobile browser (Safari, Chrome) and log in with your personal user account credentials.
