Theses & dissertations in the Bodleian Libraries

The Bodleian Library is the main repository for Commonwealth studies theses.  Holdings include D.Phils, M.Phils, B.Litts and M.Litts.  Contact the Library for comprehensive lists of theses from 1920 to 2000.  Search SOLO, Oxford Libraries' catalogue, for more recent holdings from 1994 onwards.

  Theses & dissertations beyond Oxford

Searchable abstracts of theses from around the world are availble via Proquest's Dissertations and Theses. The Index to Theses details theses from Great Britain and Northern Ireland universities as far back as 1716.

The EThoS service from the British Library also contains information about UK theses and there is increasing availability of full-text downloads, which are available once a library or individual has paid for digitization.

Remote access

Ways to access subscription resources off campus:

  1. Single Sign-On (SSO). Sign on to SOLO, OxLIP+ or your University email and your browser retains the sign on. This allows you to access most e-resources as if you were on campus.
  2. VPN (Virtual Private Network). Register with OUCS to log on to the network via VPN. Once logged on you can access all e-resources as if you were on campus.

For further information see the Bodleian Libraries remote access guide.
