Ordering manuscripts

 

To order manuscript and archival material, you will need to register with the Bodleian Archives and Manuscripts Requests service. You can then place orders via our online catalogues or by using a blank request form. Find out more about using Bodleian Archives and Manuscripts Requests.

Restricted items

Some items are restricted or require special permission before they can be consulted.

Remote readers

You can order items ahead of your visit using the Bodleian Archives and Manuscripts Requests service.

Special Collections Reading Rooms

Please be aware a maximum of 10 manuscripts or books only may be ordered at one time.

Last orders need to be submitted by 3.45pm for same day delivery. Orders placed after this time will arrive by approx 10.30am the following day, Monday-Friday.

If your material is in the stack at the Weston Library there is a 1 hour maximum fetch time, except for lunchtimes (1-2pm) when a 2 hour maximum fetch time is in place.

Limited fetching on Saturdays.

If your material is stored offsite, it will take 24 hours to arrive.
